CME tops Bitcoin futures OI as 'real facts' drive institutional uptake

Image
Bitcoin is in line to benefit from a tsunami of institutional capital, says Dan Tapiero, while Ethereum is also due an ETF boost. Bitcoin (BTC) faces a “torrent” of institutional inflows in the run-up to a United States exchange-traded fund (ETF) approval. That is the perspective of Dan Tapiero, founder and CEO of 10T Holdings, who has joined the bulls eyeing a sea change in institutional Bitcoin adoption. Tapiero: Mass capital inflows "about to hit" Bitcoin As excitement over the potential go-ahead for a U.S. Bitcoin spot price ETF grows, BTC price action has reacted in kind. As BTC/USD hit 18-month highs, meanwhile, institutional tides are already showing signs of shifting. Open interest on CME Group’s Bitcoin futures markets — the classic institutional venue for BTC derivatives — passed that of Binance for the first time this week. For Tapiero, this is a watershed moment. “Now begins the renewed drumbeat of ‘ institutional adoption’ of Bitcoin,” he announced on Nov. ...

Members of the DAO claim to be made of a dedicated group of Azuki enthusiasts. It's the latest wrinkle following the launch of the controversial "Elementals" collection. A new decentralized autonomous organization purportedly made up of a “dedicated group of Azuki enthusiasts,” has launched a proposal to claw back 20,000 Ether (ETH) from Zagabond, the founder of the blue-chip non-fungible token (NFT) brand Azuki.  The proposal, initiated on July 2, outlines hiring a lawyer to take legal action against Zagabond, real name Alex Xu, for allegedly “rugging” multiple projects. The clawback seeks $39 million worth of ETH earned from the launch of Azuki’s controversial “Elementals” collection. It proposes to allocate any funds retrieved back to the DAO to “promote the growth of the entire Azuki community.” The AzukiDAO proposal seeks to claw back $39 million from Zagabond. The entire crypto market awaits the result of todays Federal Reserve presser, and traders are hopeful that positive news will trigger a price breakout to the upside. The United States equities markets rose after the consumer price index print on June 13 came in below expectations but Bitcoin (BTC) and the altcoins failed to recover. This suggests that cryptocurrency traders are focused on crypto-specific issues and are not buying on favorable macroeconomic news.  However, there is a ray of hope for the bulls because Bitcoin is still holding above the $25,000 support. MicroStrategy co-founder Michael Saylor said in a Bloomberg interview on June 13 that the regulatory crackdown by the Securities and Exchange Commission may be bullish for Bitcoin. Saylor expects Bitcoin’s dominance to hit 80% in the future as “mega institutional money” flows into crypto after the “confusion and anxiety” dies down.  Although Saylor’s views may sound comforting to the Bitcoin bulls, they should keep in mi...

Macroeconomic headwinds continue to pressure the crypto market, but bulls appear steadfast on holding $28,000 for support and this could provide tailwinds for altcoins. Bitcoin’s (BTC) price initially dipped, but then recovered on April 3. The volatility happened after several OPEC+ members announced plans to cut oil production totaling 1.65 million barrels per day until the end of the year. Some analysts expect this move to tighten supply, resulting in higher prices at the pump. That may in turn boost inflation, warranting a continued hawkish stance from central banks. Initially, the United States Dollar index (DXY) rose but it could not sustain the intraday rally. This suggests that the market participants believe the event will not cause any major deviation in the Federal Reserve’s policy. A weaker DXY is generally considered a positive for risky assets. Bitcoin and Ethereum gave back their gains, but has anything actually changed?

Bullish crypto momentum fizzled after Fed Chair Powell poured cold water on investors’ hopes that a positive CPI report would trigger a trend change, but higher time frames remain interesting. Crypto Markets threw a nice head fake this week by rallying into resistance on a “positive” Consumer Price Index (CPI) report, before retracing the majority of those gains right after Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell took on a surprisingly hawkish tone during his post-rate-hike presser.  The Fed hiked interest rates by 0.50%, which was well within the expectation of most market participants, but the eyebrow-raiser was the Federal Open Market Committee consensus that rates would need to reach the 5%–5.5%+ range in order to hopefully achieve the Fed’s 2% inflation target. This basically threw cold water on traders’ lusty dreams of a Fed policy pivot taking place in the first half of 2023, and the damper on sentiment was felt throughout crypto and equities markets. As the charts below show, Bit...
